These former ochre quarries are a unique 4 kilometre site covering more than 1000 hectares. 4 generations of ochre quarrymen and peasants have dug the ochre cliffs. Once on site, you will understand the name "Colorado Provençal": the impression of being on the other side of the world, with breathtaking landscapes. The different colours and shades of red, orange and yellow will amaze you.

You will discover this exceptional site of ochre in Luberon while hiking. Two circuits are marked out, including a small one adapted to all ages. The larger one proposes a loop through ochre and greenery, offering unique and spectacular views of the site of the Colorado Provençal.

When to visit the ochres of Luberon ?

The Colorado Provençal is open between February and December. We advise you to discover it out of season, i.e. outside the months of June to September. The hot summer temperatures are sometimes stifling during this visit. Therefore, you will enjoy the visit and the hike out of season, with fewer tourists and very pleasant temperatures. In particular, you will have the opportunity to take full advantage of the ochres of Luberon and to take unique pictures. On the other hand, to avoid the rush, go there at the opening or at the end of the day. The light is magical on the ochre cliffs and will reveal soft and sumptuous colour gradations. All the photos presented on this page were taken in February, which proves that the colours and shades are present all year round!

How much does the tour cost?

The visit of the Colorado Provençal, major tourist site of the ochres of Luberon, is free except the car park. The parking is paying and will cost you 5€ per car. Guided tours are possible. You will be given a map of the site when you enter.

The Colorado Provençal is a unique and fragile site, which deserves special respect and protection! It is recommended to stay on the trails to protect this sensitive living space.
